*EXCEPTIONALLY FINE ENGRAVED & SHELHAMMER STOCKED CUSTOM MAGNUM MAUSER RIFLE. Cal. 375 H&H Mag. NSN. Spectacular custom rifle with 25” tapered rnd bbl with an English Jeffery-Farquhrason ramp front sight with thick Rocky Mountain shaped blade. There is no provision for a rear bbl sight and receiver is mounted with a Lyman 48M receiver sight with target knobs. Mounted in very nicely figured French walnut with straight grain through wrist and horn forend tip with case-hardened reinforcing bolt through forestock. It is checkered in 24-line deluxe patterns on forestock & wrist with a Rigby grip cap with trap and steel buttplate with 2-cartridge trap which were taken from the same Rigby rifle as the action. Stock was made by renowned stock maker, Tom Shelhammer of Michigan. Bbl is by Joe Pfeifer of California, with a Pfeifer Premium Grade blank and sights are installed by W.F. Vickery of Boise, ID. The central part of rifle is the Mauser magnum action with rear square bridge. Entire receiver, trigger guard, floorplate, bolt handle, shroud & safety and three areas on bbl are exquisitely engraved in extremely fine, foliate arabesque patterns with a fine punch dot background. This work was accomplished by a master engraver with supreme skill on the order of Winston Churchill or someone of that stature. The large diameter chamber area of bbl has the deep relief engraved vignette of two fighting bull elk & floorplate has the fantastic large vignette of a hunter holding a scoped rifle with a large, extremely well proportioned and anatomically correct grizzly bear in foreground and a mountain range in background. The two bull elk on bbl are equally well proportioned. Bolt knob has a scalloped edge, hexagonal shaped, checkered panel and the edge of safety is checkered. The grip cap is engraved to match and it, along with the trigger guard & floorplate, are finished bright. Accompanied by a copy of the 7th Edition, 1953 of The Gun Digest, where on pp. 66-69 is a complete narrative of the building of this rifle by Peyton Autry including several photographs. CONDITION: Exceptionally fine. Bbl, receiver, bolt handle, shroud, striker & safety retain virtually all of their beautiful custom blue finish. Bolt body & extractor, along with follower are finished bright. Floorplate, trigger guard & grip cap are also finished bright & retain about all of this fine finish. Stock is sound with crisp checkering and a minor storage mark or two and retains virtually all of its crisp orig finish. Buttplate is equally new. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bore. Book is fine. 4-59251 JR689 (15,000-20,000)
