MILTON JAMES BURNS (American, 1853-1933) SIX ILLUSTRATIONS WWI. Six unframed monochromatic illustrations for what probably is one magazine or newspaper story involving the coal loading of ships. Each numbered (1 thru 6). 1) 7″ x 5-1/2″ titled “Signalling by hand-flag for coal”. 2) 9-1/4″ x 6″ titled “Coalers Signalling to Fleet”. 3) 9-1/4″ x 6″ titled “on Guard”. 4) 7″ x 10″ titled “Receiving coal at night”. 5) 10″ x 14″ titled Transferring Coal to Yawls from Tender for Warship”. Also inscribed on back is “Coal for the Fleet, six drawings to be returned to M. J. Burns, Millington, NJ”. 6) 7″ x 10″ titled “Cruiser Coaling and Ironclad at Sea”. SIZE: As noted above. CONDITION: Generally very good with some nicks at edges, #4, 5 & 6 are signed “Burns”. Other three are not signed. 9-95159 (1,500-2,500)
