RARE REMINGTON SPLIT BREECH SPORTING CARBINE. Cal. 38 RF. SN 4585. Made from left over parts from Civil War Remington Savage contract. It has 22-1/4” special made rnd 38 cal. bbl, attached to left over 46 cal carbine frame. It is made without rear bbl sight and has tang sight with 2-3/4″ staff & standard front sight. Mounted in factory checkered walnut stock with steel buttplate. This is a quite rare firearm and the only one consignor has ever seen. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Bbl & receiver have enhanced patina over scattered light pitting with a spot of heavier pitting on the receiver. Wood is sound with some old touch-up over orig finish. Mechanics are fine. Strong bore with moderate to heavy pitting, mostly in front of the chamber area. 4-59332 JH12 (1,500-2,500)
