LOT OF TWO EARLY SOCKET BAYONETS. (1) Brown Bess type with 16-1/2″ triangle shaped blade, 1-1/8″ at the widest point, flat on top with hollow ground fullers on the back. It is marked near the shank end “Deakin” with inspector initials “H.S” and the number “8”. It has a short thick shank with 3-15/16″ socket that has a 7/8″ hole without locking ring. It has a reinforced collar at the back edge. CONDITION: Very fine. Light surface spotting, medium to dark brown patina. (2) Late contract 1795 musket bayonet with 15″ triangle shaped blade, flat on the top, with hollow ground fullers on the back. It has a short stiff shank with 2-11/16″ socket that has a 27/32″ hole without lock and has a “G” by the cutout. CONDITION: Fine.
