GEORGE OSCAR BAKER (American, 1882-1948) THE MAMMY’S PREFERENCE. Outstanding oil on canvas interior scene shows an elegant lady in rose colored evening gown with white trim. She sits at a dressing table having a candle lamp, mirror and powder jars. She holds up a red necklace to her to see how it looks while her mammy holds a gold necklace and stands behind her wearing a red kerchief, gold glasses and a colorful green shirt with purple apron. The wall has part of an oval painting and a long flower decorated curtain. Signed lower right “George Baker”. Housed in a magnificent deep multi-tier gesso decorated period gilt frame. SIZE: 28-3/4” x 23-1/2”. CONDITION: Very good with some minor inpainted spots. 9-28953 (9000-12000)
