*BEST QUALITY WESTLEY RICHARDS DROP ACTION DBL RIFLE. Cal. 6.5 mm Mannlicher Schoenauer. SN 15716. Beautiful box lock dbl rifle, 26-1/16” bbls with ramp front sight with hood, swamped rib, & 3-leaf platinum line express rear sight graduated 100, 150 & 250 yds. Krupp steel bbls. Right bbl has maker’s name & address and left bbl “FOR .256 MANNLICHER CARTRIDGE”. It has doll’s head extension, third bite with dbl lumps, ejectors & sgl selective trigger. Receiver is beautifully engraved with maker’s name on each side with about 80% coverage foliate arabesque patterns. It has Westley Richards’ patented “one” trigger marked on top of frame with the patented Westley Richards thumb lever. Floor plate is engraved in great detail with a bull elephant & mahout and trigger guard with a charging rhinoceros. Appended metal is engraved to match. Top tang has “SAFE” in gold & a tiny rotating stalking safety. Mounted with highly figured, tiger striped, English walnut with checkered splinter forearm & Prince of Wales rnd knob grip with checkered, raised teardrop side panels & cheek piece, 14-1/4” over a solid red pad. It has sling eyes on bbls & bottom of stock and has a blank silver plate on bottom of stock. Accompanied by its orig oak & leather green felt lined trunk case with maker’s label in lid, compartmented in bottom for a square Westley Richards oil bottle, a 2-pc coated metal cleaning rod, three boxes of Kynoch ammunition & three Galazan wood handled turn screws, along with a leather pouch containing cleaning bits. Accompanied by a Westley Richards certificate of authentication fully identifying this rifle and showing completion in 1903 and sold to Mr. V. Flemming of London. Also accompanied by copies of the production ledger giving full specifications for this rifle. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain about all of a fine professionally restored finish & receiver retains case colors in sheltered areas with floor plate & trigger guard retaining most of their orig factory bright blue. Wood is sound with minor handling & use marks and retains about all of a fine professionally restored finish. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bores with some slight frosting in grooves, may clean better. Case is scuffed & worn on outside and moderately faded & soiled inside but completely sound & good for another 100 years. 4-60726 JR310 (27,500-37,500)
