*FRANZ SCHMIED BEST QUALITY SIDELOCK DOUBLE RIFLE. Cal. 7X65R. SN 501818. Spectacular dbl rifle with 24-3/4” bbls, smooth, concave rib with ramp front sight and fixed rear sight on a quarter rib, extractor & gold plated set triggers. Rib is mounted with claw mount bases & rings containing a Swarovski Nova 6X42 scope with three posts & crosshair reticle. Mounted with exhibition quality, spectacular, honey & chocolate, streaky, French walnut with fish scale checkered, splinter forearm & pistol grip stock with curved birdhead grip & slight Monte Carlo comb with fluted cheekpiece, 14-3/8” over an Old English pad. Bottom of stock has a 4-cartridge trap and a narrow sling swivel with a corresponding safari swivel on bbls. Coin finished receiver & lockplates are beautifully engraved in Germanic style with very deep relief vignettes of a resting hunter holding his rifle with a dog in a forest scene on left side. Right lockplate has the vignette of an ancient hunter with crossbow sneaking up on two chamois. Bottom of receiver has a very deep relief wild boar. Balance of lockplates & receiver are surrounded with full coverage foliate & floral patterns with a gold wire border completely around entire receiver & lockplates with gold wire border around top tang and thumb lever. Trigger guard has intertwined gold initials that appear to be “WW”. Cartridge trap & forend iron are engraved to match. Weight: 8 lbs. 8.64 oz. CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, as new, possibly unfired. Retains virtually all of its orig factory finish to both metal & wood. Bbl blue is slightly plum, but appears to be original. Wood finish is brilliant. Mechanics are fine, brilliant shiny bores. Optics are crisp. 4-59145 JR648 (20,000-30,000)
