FINE HIGH GRADE VERY EARLY J. P. CLABROUGH BRO’S MASSIVE DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 8 bore. SN 6. Huge hammer dbl with 36″ Damascus bbls, smooth, tapered, concave rib with single bead and makers name near the chamber end. It has dbl lump with doll’s head extension. The receiver, lockplate and forend iron are beautifully engraved with about 70-75% coverage, fine arabesque and geometric patterns. The receiver has reinforced sides with beautifully scalloped fences and the makers name appears in a ribbon on each lockplate. It is mounted in very nicely figured English walnut with full checked splinter forearm and semi-pistol grip stock 14-3/8″ over a checkered horn buttplate. It has full length lower tang with fluted horn grip cap and a small silver initial shield at bottom of stock. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain 95-96% strong original Damascus pattern and the receiver and lockplates about all their original case colors, strong and bright in the sheltered areas, muted elsewhere with silvered edges. Trigger guard retains about 70% thinning original blue and the opening lever about 95% original blue. Wood is sound with crisp edges and light handling & use marks and retains most of its original oil finish with some light staining on the comb. Checkering shows very light wear with a minor bruise or two and a couple of small, light scrapes. Mechanics are crisp. Bores are strong with some shine and moderate pitting. A fine, scarce big bore shotgun in wonderful condition and very unusual in this high grade model. 4-53666 JR1008 (5,000-7,000)
