TWO JAPANESE CARVED IVORY NETSUKES (Probably mid 19th Century). 1) The first depicting a blacksmith at work fashioning a blade. Signed on the underside within a cinnabar panel. SIZE: 2-1/2”h. The second a merchant with gourd vessels in hand with a bundle of kindling. The second signed on the back of the robe and with remains of paper label. Both with incised carved details. SIZE: 4-1/2”h. PROVENANCE: From a Harpswell, Maine home. CONDITION: The first with two missing toes, the second with chip to gourd stock, and some missing twig ends.
