SCARCE COLT MODEL 1883 DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 10 ga. SN 7659. Scarce early gun with 32-1/8″ fine pattern Damascus bbls with single brass bead and the maker’s name & address on the matted, tapered, concave, Damascus rib. It has dbl triggers & extractors. The receiver is unmarked with simple light scallop border patterns and the floorplate has the usual patent markings. It is mounted in very nicely figured American walnut with black insert semi-schnable tipped splinter forearm and semi-pistol grip stock, 14-1/4″ over a rampant Colt hard rubber buttplate. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Bbls retain 85-90% original Damascus pattern with some browning and very fine pitting at the muzzle edge and thinning over the carry point. Receiver retains about 30% thin faded case colors with the balance a light silvery patina. Stock is sound with oil staining around the receiver and wrist and retains about 75% original varnish with moderate handling & use scratches & marks. Forearm has a crack near the left tip and shows heavy wear overall with a couple of small gouges, otherwise it is dark and oil stained but sound. Mechanics are fine, bores with some shine and moderate pitting in the left bbl and light in the right bbl. 4-53582 JR970 (1,000-1,500)
