*SCARCE L.C. SMITH SKEET SPECIAL DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN FWE135785. Fine double with 30” London Steel bbls choked FULL/IMP-MOD with factory ventilated rib, dbl ivory beads, cross bolt rib extension, ejectors & Hunter One Trigger. Mounted with replacement, nicely figured, flame grain, American walnut with checkered, beavertail forearm & pistol grip stock, 13-1/2” over a crystallized White Line pad. Lockplates are engraved with a flying quail with a clay target in a circle on left side & a partridge on right side with a couple of small flourishes of arabesque engraving and maker’s name on each lockplate. Trigger plate is marked “HUNTER ONE TRIGGER”. Bore diameter: left – .737, right – .737. Bore restrictions: left – .044, right – .035. Wall thickness: left – .029, right – .029. Drop at heel: 1-5/8”, drop at comb: 1-3/8”. Weight: 7 lbs. 8.96 oz. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain most of a thin artificially aged plum patina. Receiver & lockplates retain most of their case colors, strong & bright in sheltered areas, moderately faded on bottom front, perhaps a great restoration. Covered with a coating of lacquer or shellac. Stock has a repaired chip back of left lockplate & a hairline back of right lockplate, otherwise wood is sound & retains most of a glossy custom finish.
