*RARE L.C. SMITH MONOGRAM GRADE DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN RE44469. Beautiful high grade L.C. Smith with 30” Whitworth Steel bbls choked FULL/FULL with tapered, concave, matted rib, sgl ivory bead with middle bead broken. It has ejectors & Hunter One Trigger. Right bbl is engraved “SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH FLUID COMPRESSED STEEL” and the left “MADE TO ORDER BY THE HUNTER ARMS CO. INC. FULTON, N.Y.” The breech end of rib has an inlaid gold line and is engraved “L.C. SMITH MONOGRAM GRADE”. Mounted with extremely beautiful, burl & shell grain, American walnut with carved & checkered, black tip, splinter forearm & Prince of Wales stock with carved & checkered wrist, 13-3/4” over a black White Line pad. Bottom of stock has a blank gold initial oval. Lockplates are beautifully relief engraved with two flying pigeons on each side, surrounded by full coverage, foliate, arabesque floral & vine engraving with maker’s name engraved on each side. Receiver has about 70% coverage matching engraving with bouquets of flowers in several locations. Bottom of receiver & across trigger plate have a flying duck. Trigger guard & forend iron are engraved to match and engraving extends 1-3/4” over chambers of bbls. Bore diameter: left – .721, right – .721. Bore restrictions: left – .033, right – .033. Wall thickness: left – .029, right – .024. Drop at heel: 2-1/4”, drop at comb: 1-1/2”. Weight: 7 lbs. 14.08 oz. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Bbls retain most of a fine, professionally restored blue with some thinning on sides of chamber end & slight muzzle edge wear. Receiver & lockplates retain traces of orig case colors, being mostly faded to silver. Trigger guard retains most of its restored finish. Stock has a hairline back of each lockplate & forearm has a repaired crack & chip, otherwise wood is sound and retains about all of a beautiful professionally restored finish.
