Maker’s name is in a ribbon on each side. Fences are nicely sculpted and top tang has “SAFE” in gold. Trigger bow has gold initials “WJBMcC” in a small shield and engraving extends 2” up over chamber areas. Accompanied by a Fox Historian letter, fully identifying this shotgun with FULL and MODIFIED chokes. Letter states that it was originally ordered by the Walthour & Hood Co. and not taken. It was ultimately shipped on Dec. 23, 1927 to W.J.B. McClenachan Co. No address was given. In 1927, the retail price was $256.60. Also accompanied by its orig 2-pc orange cardboard box with orig label marked “SPECIAL” with the outline of the serial number visible. Bore diameter: left – .727, right – .727. Bbls retain most of their orig factory blue with some spot touch-up near left muzzle and one or two other small areas. Middle bead appears to be plastic, not ivory. Receiver retains about all of its strong orig case colors, slightly faded on bottom. The floorplate screw & trigger guard screw show evidence of a slipped screwdriver and may have been touched up. Trigger guard retains virtually all of its orig case colors. Wood is sound with buttstock having been expertly refinished from checkering to pad, probably at time pad was installed, with the area, from checkering forward having orig finish. Forearm has orig finish. Chambers appear to have been lengthened to their current 2-3/4” and chokes have been opened. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bores. Regardless, this is still one of the finer D grade Fox shotguns on market today. Box has a break on one side and has been taped on both ends with several areas of scotch tape. Label shows water damage, otherwise box is fine. 4-59133 JR657 (25,000-35,000)
