*JOHN WILKES SMALL FRAME BOXLOCK DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 28 ga. SN 13685. Fantastic little upland gun with 2-1/2″ chambers, regulated for 5/8 oz. loads. It has 26″ bbls with smooth tapered concave rib with single bead choked FULL/FULL. The maker’s name and address appear on the rib near the chamber end. It has a smooth boxlock action with light border engraving and a few scattered flourishes of arabesque engraving. The maker’s name is engraved in a ribbon on each side. The wood is very nicely figured English walnut with splinter forearm and straight stock, 14-1/2″ over a serrated butt which is part of a 1-3/4″ professionally added extension. It has dbl triggers and extractors. Drop at the heel 1-7/8”, drop at the comb 1-5/16”. Weight 4 lbs, 13.2 oz. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain 96-97% strong, bright original blue. Receiver retains about all of its brilliant original case colors with some slight graying to the edges which is frequently the way these guns look when new. Trigger guard is flaked to mostly a gray patina with traces of dark blue. Floorplate retains about 95% original glossy blue. Wood is sound with the aforementioned extension and a few light bruises on the right side of the butt and a couple small gouges on the left side of the wrist, otherwise retains most of a fine oil finish showing light to moderate wear.
