SCARCE ETHAN ALLEN PATENT ACTION DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 10 ga. SN 201. Allen’s Patent action shotgun with 27-1/2” Damascus bbls, with smooth concave rib, sgl bead with company name & address & patent information on side opening breechblock. Opening the breechblock exposes chambers for loading & pushing trigger guard down & forward extracts cartridges from chambers. Sides of receiver, breechblock, hammers, trigger guard & tangs are nicely engraved with foliate arabesque patterns. Mounted with very nicely figured, checkered, shell grain, American walnut with black tipped splinter forearm with sgl wedge & straight stock with smooth steel buttplate. Accompanied by an orig tooled leather pouch with hinged lid & closure tab that fits over a brass stud. It has two narrow belt loops on back & contains orig metal 4-cartridge insert which contains two orig Allen’s Patent cartridges, one of which is still loaded and four orig copper primers. CONDITION: Fine. Bbls retain a smooth, mottled, dark brown patina with about 50% Damascus pattern showing through. Receiver has strong case colors on back edge between hammers, and in sheltered areas elsewhere and on hammers with balance a dark gray patina. Stock has repaired chips by top tang; otherwise wood is sound & retains most of a professionally restored finish. Mechanics are fine, strong bore with good shine & moderate pitting. Pouch is moderately soiled & stained with some dryness & a repair to tab and retains strong orig finish. One cartridge is fine, retaining most of its orig nickel.
