HIGH ART G. WILCKE DBL BBL DAMASCUS SHOTGUN. Cal. 12ga. SN, none visible. Spectacular dbl with 29-3/8″ floral pattern Damascus bbls, choked FULL/MOD with tapered, concave, matted rib and single bead. The makers name and address are in gold on top of the bbls and there is a wide and a narrow gold band at the breech end. The bbls have dbl lump with doll’s head extension, ejectors and dbl triggers. It is built on a Sauer dbl scalloped box-lock action and has Sauer proofs on the bottom bbl flats. It has very nicely figured French walnut wood with horn insert, semi-schnable tipped splinter forearm and semi-pistol gripped stock 14″ over a skeleton buttplate. It has narrow sling swivels on the stock and bbls and a deep German style cheek piece. The receiver has cocked indicators with “S” in gold on the top tang and has a full-checkered thumb safety. The receiver and forend iron are very beautifully engraved in intricately detailed relief patterns of oak leaves and acorns with tree branches in the background. The fences are lightly scalloped and have matching engraving with a scalloped border. The opening lever, top tang and trigger guard are engraved to match with the trigger guard having raised gold inlaid initials “P I”. The stock and forearm are exquisitely carved in oak leaf and acorn patterns with one series of patterns twining through the checkered wrist. The lower left side of the grip has a fox head incorporated in the carving and the right side a bunny’s head. The left side of the butt, behind the cheek piece has a very deeply carved vignette of two rooster pheasants in the foreground, in a field with a fence, trees, a house and two flying pheasants in the background. It has a beautifully stippled background with oak leaves and acorns framing the top. About 60% of the right side of the buttstock is deep relief carved with the vignette of six birds in a field and marsh scene with trees in the background and is surrounded with a frame of twining branches, oak leaf and acorns. The forearm is deep carved to match. The buttplate is engraved with the inscription “GEWIDMET / VON / C. DINKELACKER / R. LEICHT / C. WIEDMAIER” Translation: Made by (these three gentlemen). Drop at the heel 2 ½”, drop at the comb 1-3/8” and weight 6 lbs, 7.7 oz. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Bbls retain 96-97% strong original Damascus pattern, slightly thin and dull over the carry point. Receiver and other metal are dark gray metal patina. Engraving retains most of its fine intricate detail with some minor wear on the trigger guard. Wood is sound, shows heavy wear on wrist & forearm and retains a beautiful hand-rubbed patina.
