*SCARCE WESTLEY RICHARDS OVUNDO MODEL DROPLOCK OVER/UNDER SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 17620. Beautiful superposed shotgun with 30” bbls choked FULL/IMP-CYL with raised, solid, concave, smooth rib with silver front bead & ivory middle bead, sgl under bite with dbl rear bites, ejectors and sgl selective trigger. Rib is marked with maker’s name & address and model name. It is nitro-proofed for 1-1/4 oz. with 2-3/4” chambers. Mounted with very nicely figured, English walnut with fine checkered rnd forearm with horn tip and straight stock with raised teardrop side panels, 14-3/8” over a checkered butt. Boxlock action with sideplates is very beautifully engraved with foliate arabesque patterns & maker’s name on each side. Top tang has “SAFE” in gold and trigger plate has “O” and “U” in gold. Inside of hinged floorplate & internal mechanisms are all beautifully jeweled. Engraving patterns extend over bbl reinforcements with fine border patterns over top of bbl & rib. Bore diameter: top – .736, bottom – .738. Bore restrictions: top – .015, bottom – .047. Wall thickness: top – .024, bottom – .032. Drop at heel: 2-5/8”, drop at comb: 1-1/2”. Weight: 7 lbs. 13.44 oz. Accompanied by a letter from Westley Richards fully identifying this shotgun as having been sold to H.G. Spurgeon of Winnepeg in 1924. Also accompanying are copies of the production record. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Has been used, but very little. Bbls retain 97-98% glossy orig blue with minor muzzle edge wear & a couple small dings on each side. Receiver & sideplates retain most of their orig case colors, somewhat faded on receiver and right sideplate. Forearm has a repaired crack on right side, otherwise wood is sound and retains all of an extremely fine, very professional restoration.
