*RARE J. WOODWARD & SONS OVER/UNDER SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 6724. Rare & beautiful over/under with 30″ superposed bbls choked FULL (.030)/MOD (.019). It has single selective trigger & ejectors. It is mounted in very beautiful French walnut with standard forearm and Prince of Wales semi-pistol grip stock, 14-3/4″ over a checkered butt. It has raised teardrop side panels, extended bottom tang and hard rubber grip cap. It appears that the stock & forearm are wonderful English replacements as the wood to metal fit is near perfect. The checkering is about 30 or 32 lines per inch. The receiver and lockplates are exquisitely engraved in very fine English rose & scroll patterns with about 90% coverage. The lockplates each have the maker’s name in a small panel and they have gold line cocked indicators. The opening lever, trigger guard and forend iron are engraved to match and the trigger guard is additionally engraved “WOODWARD’S PATENT SINGLE TRIGGER”. The opening lever has gold inlaid intertwined initials. The safety is reversed, in that forward is safe and slide to the rear to fire. The serial number is relief engraved on the lower tang. There is a spot on the rib about 6″ from the breech end where it appears there may have been another bead. Drop at the heel 2”, drop at the comb 1-5/8”. Weight 7 lbs 13.9 oz. CONDITION: Extremely fine, the bbls retain about all of a fine English re-blacking. The receiver retains most of its original case hardening with brilliant colors in the very sheltered areas and the balance turned silver. The lockplates retain virtually all of their case hardening with about 90% fading colors on the right side and about 70% on the left side. The trigger guard and opening lever retain most of their brilliant niter blue. The wood is sound and retains virtually all of its wonderful hand rubbed oil finish.
