LARGE EARLY 1900’s TIN EUROPEAN CARRIAGE. Perhaps one of the most delicate, finely detailed, and hand enameled carriages ever produced during the first part of the 20th century! The tin body of the carriage itself is suspended by leather belts from an intricate framework, an extreme amount of hand painted decoration and fanciful tin work to the roof further add to the desirability of this rare toy. Purported to be of Spanish manufacture this toy has resided in a private collection for many years. The driver is of papier mache and appears also to be dressed in Spanish attire/uniform. Opening doors lead to the private compartment which has a fine sateen seat. This toy is without horse which probably would have been a hide covered horse on a wheeled wooden base or a tin/zinc combination horse with small wheels affixed to hooves. SIZE: 20″ l x 11″ h. CONDITION: Overall very fine original condition however some professional repairs were made to the undercarriage. The horse`s yoke is of newer manufacture. 1-8579 JL (5,000-7,000) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2008 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price. The prices noted here after the auction are considered unofficial and do not become official until after the 46th day. |
