*CASED J. WOODWARD & SONS BEST QUALITY OVER/UNDER SHOTGUN. Cal. 16 ga. SN 6429. Spectacular & light superposed shotgun with 24” Sir Joseph Whitworth’s Fluid Pressed Steel bbls choked MOD/MOD with flat solid rib that is hand matted with sgl bead & a gold “2” at breech end. Top of rib has maker’s name & address and the bbl steel information. It has 2-9/16” chambers with ejectors & sgl non-selective trigger. Thumb lever opens to the left. Mounted with very beautiful, streaky, marble cake, French or Circassian walnut with checkered beavertail forearm & Prince of Wales stock with raised teardrop side panels, 14-1/2” over a solid red pad with slight cast off. Grip cap is smooth horn & there is a blank gold initial plate on bottom. Receiver & appended metal parts are very beautifully engraved with extremely fine, tight English rose & scroll patterns with maker’s name on each side. Fences are deep sculptured with side reinforcements & engraving extends over top and onto top bbl. There is a corresponding gold “2” on thumb lever and another on the metal forend tip. Top tang has “SAFE” in gold and safety is an unusual shape with an oval at the end. It has blued screws & pins with gold line cocked indicator. Bottom of receiver is marked “WOODWARD,S / PATENT / OVER & UNDER” and trigger bow is marked “WOODWARD’S SINGLE TRIGGER”. Accompanied by an orig Woodward leather trunk case with green felt lining, compartmented in bottom for bbls & stocked receiver with a pair of Woodward 12 ga. snap caps. Top section is compartmented for cleaning equipment & other necessities. Inside lid is an orig Woodward label. Bore diameter: top – .666, bottom – .666. Bore restrictions: top – .014, bottom – .013. Wall thickness: top – .032, bottom – .031. Drop at heel: 2-5/8”, drop at comb: 1-5/8”. Weight: 5 lbs. 15.04 oz. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain 96-97% fine professionally restored blue with some slight muzzle & breech end wear. Receiver & lockplates are bright, silvered case colors and trigger guard retains most of its restored blue. Wood is sound and retains about all of a fine professionally restored finish. Mechanics are a little stiff, but crisp. Brilliant shiny bores. Case is fine showing light to moderate wear with some light wear to lining. 4-60380 JR682 (37,500-47,500)
