It is accompanied by two letters from the Savage Arms historians, one dated Sept. 13, 1995 over the signature of Roe Clark and the other dated June 14, 2004 over the signature of John Callahan. Both completely identify this shotgun and indicate a final shipment of March 25, 1913 to Schoverling, Daly & Gales of New York City. They both list the same dimensions for this shotgun. Mr. Callahan states that this grade Fox was built strictly “to order” and was the finest example of the American gun maker’s art. He also states that this is the same grade of shotgun which accompanied President Roosevelt on his African and South American trips and prompted him to write “no better gun was ever made”. Also accompanied by an undated letter from Tom Gibbons, Executive Buying Service of Lancaster, PA wherein he states that he believes “this to be the best FE ever found”. Additionally accompanied by a blue felt lined, brass bound, oak & leather trunk case period to the shotgun, compartmented in the bottom for the stocked receiver, bbls & forearm, along with an English style gold oil bottle, a brass chamber brush with horn handle. It also has a wooden handled boar-bristle brush and an early tin oil container. There is a maker’s label in the lid, apparently applied at a later date and it has the initials “E.P.R.” on top.
