LOUIS (NATAVEL) VIDAL (French, 1831-1892) THE FALLEN ELK. Fine bronze sculpture of a recently fallen elk who lays on a rocky ground raising its head for one last gasp of air. The head supports a thirteen point rack. The base signed “Vidal (aveugle)” (Vidal the Blind). Vidal had a continuing blindness since youth and often signed his bronzes this way. Mounted to an oval molded edge green and black marble base. Nice old brown patina. A fine example of this 19th Century bronze. SIZE: Bronze: 9-1/2″ h x 13″ l.
