*SCARCE PARKER BHE GRADE DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 153391. Built on a No. 2 frame with 30” Acme Steel bbls choked FULL/CYL with tapered concave matted rib, sgl bead, doll’s head rib extension, ejectors & dbl triggers. Mounted with very nicely figured, tight grain, burled, Circassian walnut with checkered, splinter forearm & pistol grip stock with raised, checkered fleur-de-lis side panels, 14-1/4” over an old solid red pad. Hard rubber grip cap has a gold insert engraved with initials “JHR” (?). Just behind grip on bottom of stock, in tiny letters, appears to be “PAT’D-SEP 10-1895”. This shotgun is listed in Parker Gun Identification & Serialization as an A5, hammerless with ejectors, capped pistol grip stock, 12 ga., and 30” bbls. Receiver is beautifully engraved with two pointers on left side, two setters on right side and two pointers on floorplate with a flying bird, all surrounded by fine arabesque patterns with maker’s name in a ribbon on each side. Fences have a sgl rib at their back edges. Bbls have a light border pattern and appended metal is engraved to match. Bore diameter: left – .735, right – .734. Bore restrictions: left – .042, right – .004. Wall thickness: left – .028, right – .032. Drop at heel: 2-1/4”, drop at comb: 1-7/16”. Weight: 7 lbs. 15.04 oz. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbls retain 96-97% strong orig blue with some thinning about mid-point on both bbls with light touch-up and some touch-up at muzzles. Receiver retains about 75% orig case colors, strong in sheltered areas, thinned elsewhere and turned to a silver/brown patina on bottom front. Wood is sound with light handling & use marks and retains most of a professionally restored finish from grip to butt on stock, with orig finish from grip forward. Forearm shows heavy wear with some light battering and retains a worn dark finish. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bores. Dr. Poppell Collection 4-59282 JR461 (20,000-30,000)
