*TWO WONDERFUL CASED PURDEY & SONS DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUNS. Cal. 12 ga. SN 26797 & 26998. Beautiful Purdeys with 26” bbls choked SKEET/SKEET in both sets. They have tapered, concave, matted ribs with dbl beads, ejectors & sgl non-selective triggers. Number 26797 (#1) has slightly smaller bbl markings than number 26998 (#2), otherwise the markings are identical. They are both mounted with very nicely figured, but not matched, streaky, honey & chocolate, French walnut with checkered, beavertail forearms & pistol grip stocks, 14” over checkered butts. Both have hard rubber grip caps with gold initial ovals on bottoms of stocks engraved “R.K.M.” They are both engraved with Purdey’s standard rose & scroll patterns with #1 gun having finer & tighter patterns and slightly deeper. Both have a small gold rectangle in trigger bow with #2 gun having a gold “2” on forend tip & on trigger bow with an engraved “2” inside forend iron. Bbls are not marked with a “2”. Both sets of bbls are proofed 3-1/4 tons and are marked “2-3/4”. Accompanied by a Brady wine colored, felt lined, tan leather motor case, compartmented for all four pieces. It has leather corner reinforcements with handle on top and is embossed “GILLET” on lid. It is readily apparent that someone whose initials are on the guns had the #1 gun and, needing a pair, ordered second gun to match. #1 GUN: Bore diameter: left – .730, right – .731. Bore restrictions: left – .0015, right – .003. Wall thickness: left – .031, right – .032. Drop at heel: 2-5/8”, drop at comb: 1-1/2”. Weight: 7 lbs. 3.2 oz. #2 GUN: Bore diameter: left – .731, right – .731. Bore restrictions: left – .003, right – .003. Wall thickness: left – .031, right – .026. Drop at heel: 2-5/8”, drop at comb: 1-5/8”. Weight: 7 lbs. 2.56 oz. CONDITION: GUN #1: Very fine. Bbls retain 85-90% strong orig blue, worn at muzzles and thin over chamber & receiver areas. Lockplates retain most of their strong orig case colors with receiver retaining case colors in sheltered areas with bottom front turned silver. Trigger plate retains most of its orig blue & trigger guard strong bright blue, moderately thinned on tang. Forearm has a hairline on each side at rear edge & another back of right lockplate, otherwise wood is sound and retains about all of a fine professionally restored finish. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bores. GUN #2: Extremely fine. Bbls retain most of their strong, bright, orig blue with very slight muzzle edge wear. Receiver & lockplates retain virtually all of their brilliant orig factory case colors. There is a tiny chip on toe, otherwise wood is sound & retains about all of its orig hand rubbed oil finish with light handling & use marks. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bores.
