RARE AND OUTSTANDING EDMOND OSTHAUS ADVERTISING OIL ON CANVAS PAINTING. An outstanding example of this famous and prolific wildlife artist’s work. It is a horizontal image 21-1/2″ x 11-1/2″ in a modern, distressed, gold lined frame 24-1/2″ x 15-1/2″. The image is in outstanding detail of a spaniel puppy with a box of US Cartridge Company “Romax” shotgun shells. The puppy is in a field of grass with a small shrub in the background and a slate gray sky. The shot shell box image is removable in order for another brand or type of product to be inserted. Osthaus worked for most of the major sporting goods companies and provided artwork for calendars, posters, and promotional materials. The back of the painting has a paper label from a New York company. The number “C-S-52-E” appears in the lower right corner of the image. CONDITION: Extremely fine with crisp bright colors throughout with no signs of damage or repair. The frame is fine and, although a modern replacement, gives the impression of great age. 4-53189 JR960 (27,500-37,500)
