*BOSS BEST QUALITY DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 9236. Beautiful Boss double with 27” bbls choked IMP-CYL/IMP-CYL with tapered, concave, smooth rib, sgl bead, dbl chopper lumps, ejectors & dbl triggers. Mounted with extremely beautiful French walnut with checkered, rounded, splinter forearm & straight stock, 14-1/2” over a fine checkered butt. Receiver & lockplates are very beautifully engraved in English rose & scroll patterns with bouquets of flowers on lockplates, bottom of receiver, trigger plate & fences, surrounded by fine, foliate arabesque patterns. Appended metal is engraved to match. Bbl rib has maker’s name & a gold inlaid “2” with a corresponding number “2” on thumb lever & tip of forend iron. Top tang has “SAFE” in gold. Bottom of stock has a gold initial plate engraved “R.M.G.” Initials are for Mr. R.M. Gaylord of Rockford, Illinois. Mr. Gaylord was an enthusiastic hunter of waterfowl & lived near the Delta Marsh & was an equally enthusiastic supporter of the “Ducks Unlimited” organization, and in its early years was one of its first presidents. Bore diameter: left – .730, right – .729. Bore restrictions: left – .005, right – .005. Wall thickness: left – .025, right – .029. Drop at heel: 2-1/4”, drop at comb: 1-5/8”. Weight: 6 lbs. 6.4 oz. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain 88-90% orig blue, strong & bright over forward half, thin on sides over forearm area. Receiver & lockplates retain most of their orig case colors, strong & bright in sheltered areas, especially on right side, thinning elsewhere & nearly silver on bottom front. Trigger guard retains 93-95% orig blue, thin on tang. Stock has a hairline back of top tang and another back of left lockplate, otherwise wood is sound with light handling & use marks with a small gouge on right side of buttstock & retains most of its orig oil finish.
