UNKNOWN (19th Century) WINTER SCENE WITH RUSSIAN TROOPS. Large oil on canvas Russian scene shows Russian soldiers on horseback and in covered wagons pulled by teams of horses. The men are outfitted in colorful costumes and hold different colored flags. All set on a snow covered winter landscape with gray clouds. Remnants of a signature can be seen on the left but is not legible. Housed in its original pierce carved gesso decorated frame which has been painted gray and has a wide inner lining. Partial framing label from Columbus, Ohio present on frame. Consignor informed us that this was originally purchased in 1919 in New York City and was in the same family until 1992. SIZE: 27” x 41-1/2”. CONDITION: Relined with aluminum backing. One area of inpainting to sky, very good. 5-71796 (10,000-20,000)
