IMPORTANT LARGE LOT OF UNIFORMS AND EPHEMERA BELONGING TO LT. GENERAL DR. KARL MAUSS, 7TH PANZER DIVISION. With this wonderful lot of uniforms is included much paperwork, history and a copy of a photograph of this hard fighting, determined, front-line General. Mauss was esteemed by his troops and regarded as a front-line General not adverse to being “in the trenches with his troops”. His loyalty, determination, and great success as a General is clearly evidenced by the prestigious award of the Diamonds to the Knight’s Cross. Gen. Mauss was one of only 27 German officers to be honored with such a coveted recognition. Includes Knight’s Cross, Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds. The group consists of the following: 1) General’s Visor Cap. “EREL, Sonderklass, Extra” marked under the sweatshield. CONDITION: Excellent and orig. 2) Parade Dress Waffenrock. High quality uniform tailor-made by “Albert Kuhl, Gegrundet, 1909” located in Münster and Essen. The tailor’s label, located in the inner pocket, is ink inscribed “Gen Maj K Mauss, April 1944”. The tunic bears Mauss’ orig medals; the Knight’s Cross is a later jeweler’s copy. The awards include from World War I; an Iron Cross 2nd Class, Iron Cross 1st Class, Pilot’s badge by Junker, and the Freikorps Silesian Eagle Order. From World War II; the Spange of the Iron Cross 1st Class, Eastern Front medal, Wound badge in gold, bronze Tank Assault badge, bronze Close Combat Clasp, and the German Cross in gold. The cuff and collar litzen are hand-applied and the General’s aiguillette is secured by the proper button under the right epaulet. CONDITION: Tunic shows light wear and several small moth nips on the back and on one skirt. 3) General’s Breeches. Dbl-wide side stripes. Zippered closures. Buttoned fly. Inner lining is of a polka-dotted material. No tailor’s label or other marks. CONDITION: Fine and orig. 4) Lightweight gabardine M1936-style General’s tunic. Manufacturer’s label reads “Uniformhaus Carl Meyers Gegündet 1857 Köln Steinweg 2-6 am Gurzenich”. Label in the inner pocket is inscribed “Oberleutnant Dr. Mauss 2.4.1941 Nr. 5994”. The General’s litzen are machine-applied; the gold eagle is hand applied. The interior of the collar is protected by a starched liner marked “Prima Macco 4 Fach”. The tunic bears a light ribbon bar and the same badges as the dress uniform, all of which appear to be orig. CONDITION: Excellent. No evidence of heavy wear or mothing. 5) Brocade belt with General’s style gold buckle. CONDITION: Belt and buckle appear to be unworn. 6) Brown officer’s belt with open claw buckle. Belt is marked “Croupon Nr. 606. CONDITION: Belt appears to be unworn. 7) Key-wind silver nickel-plated pocket watch, by “A. W. Co. Waltham”. The back of the watch bears the engraving “Dr. Karl Mauss GEN. LT. 7 PZ. DIV. 1944”. A photograph of a young woman is glued inside the face cover. The outside cover bears a simple engraved design. The key winder is suspended from a silver chain from the top of the watch, as is a 1914 dated Iron Cross on a fob made of Iron Cross ribbon. 8) Wooden box marked “planauscrüstung” in black paint, “7 PD Kdr”. Hand applied in white paint. A contents label describes the items to be found in the box, most of which are missing. CONDITION: Fine. 9) A collection of maps, day books, letters and photographs pertaining to Mauss which are too numerous to describe, but add to the value of the collection. 10) Two modern books Knights of the Reich and Die 7. Panzer Division which include references to Mauss. 4-60328 (35,000-55,000)
