REGENCY GILT-DECORATED AND INLAID TILT-TOP TABLE. First half 19th century. The papier-mache table, with hinged oval top, having a central floral spray comprised of abalone inlays, gilt-heightened, within a similarly inlaid floral border, the scalloped and molded gilt-decorated edges above the conforming apron tilting on a bulbous-turned standard joined to the quatrefoil-shaped plinth with upturned feet, all gilt-decorated with scrolling vinery, the whole raised on brass casters. SIZE: 28-1/2″ h. x 28-1/2″ l. x 24″ w. CONDITION: Table retains original surfaces and inlays, the top missing two pieces of abalone inlay. In addition, there is some minor in-filling of japanned surface, including small repair to table edge. Base has two small edge damages and two compression damages on plinth; apron with two 2-inch areas of damage at long end. Surfaces with craquelure throughout, generally very good. 9-92700 (1,000-1,500)
