RARE PROTOTYPE M7 COLT ARMALITE BAYONET FOR THE AR15/M16. Prototype for the eventual production model of the soon to be famous rifle. It has an M4 style blade, 6-7/8” long with 3-1/2” of back grind marked on right side in two lines “COLT’S-62082 ARMALITE / HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A. PATENTS PENDING”. There is the Rampant Colt in a circle in the center and the Armalite name is trademarked. It has a green composite handle with a dimple on right side of spacers. It has an M4 style latch but more squared across top. Handguard is from 1/8” stock with large ring for AR15/M16 flash hider. Accompanied by an M8 style Fiberglas sheath with metal throat painted OD with OD canvas belt loop and thumb strap with wire pistol belt hanger. It has its orig rawhide thong. See figure 424 in The Black Rifle M16 Retrospective, Stevens & Ezell. CONDITION: Near new with some rubs on the sides of blade. Sheath is also near new. 4-56732 JR471 (1,000-1,500)
