EXTREMELY RARE SPIW PROTOTYPE BAYONET.

EXTREMELY RARE SPIW PROTOTYPE BAYONET. Made for a military program experimental “special purpose individual weapon”. The idea of program was to provide individual infantry soldier an all around weapon with select fire capability & grenade launcher. The construction of the unit was such that an ordinary bayonet would either block the sights, the grenade launcher or both. Therefore the experimentation with offset bayonets. This bayonet incorporates the blade & handle from a Type I M4 bayonet with stacked leather handle without spacers and a full length orig blade with 3-1/2” of back grind mounted with a thicker handguard with offset muzzle ring. Completely unmarked. Accompanied by an orig M8 Fiberglas & canvas sheath. See The SPIW The Deadliest Weapon that Never Was, Stevens & Ezell. CONDITION: Pristine new. Does not appear to have ever been mounted and certainly was never on a rifle in use. Blade retains all of its black oxide finish and handguard all of its gray/green metallic finish.
