*RARE WINCHESTER MODEL 1892 TRAPPER CARBINE. Cal. 32 WCF. SN 615287. Very rare 14″ carbine with full magazine, square base front sight and carbine ladder rear sight, missing the slide. The receiver has a staple & ring in the left side and the bolt is missing the extractor. It has gumwood stock & forearm with straight grip and smooth carbine buttplate. It is accompanied by a BATF letter dated October 5, 1981 specifically exempting this carbine from the provisions of the National Firearms Act of 1936 and declaring it a Curio & Relic. This carbine was purchased shortly before that date by this cataloguer from an old trapper who lived on Cape Cod and subsequently sold to the consignor. The old gentleman who sold it stated that he had purchased it new and used it on his trap lines and, for a time, on his fishing boat to shoot sharks. CONDITION: Very good, no original finish remains, being a dark brown patina overall with some scattered spots of light surface rust and chemical spotting on the bbl. The receiver has a gouge on each side of the lever. The stock has a hairline on the left side of the wrist and is missing a couple of small chips by the top tang, otherwise the wood is sound with numerous nicks, scratches & dings and a couple of light gouges but retains 30-40% original finish under old soil & patina. The extractor missing, as noted, otherwise mechanics are fine. Bright shiny bore. The extractor is an easy repair. 4-53603 JR1031 (2,000-3,000)
