RARE DAHLGREN BOWIE BAYONET WITH SCABBARD. 12” blade with 4” sharpened false edge on top. Marked “AMES MFG CO / CHICOPEE. / MASS.” on the left ricasso. “U. S N. / D.R. / 1863.” on the right and “DR” in an oval cartouche on top of the pommel. Leather scabbard with brass throat and tip. This bayonet was made for the Whitney Model 1861 Plymouth Rifle used by the navy. CONDITION: Fine. Bright blade having minor pitting. Brass hilt and scabbard fittings have a dark patina. Wood grip has minor dents and bruises. Catch spring is evenly pitted. Leather has minor cracks. Four rivets at the tip are missing. 4-58362 (1,500-2,500)
