RARE SPECIAL ORDER WINCHESTER MODEL 1886 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 45-90. SN 18929. Standard grade rifle with extremely rare 27″ oct bbl, full magazine, Jack front sight, missing its bead, flat top rear sight and a Lyman loop hunting tang sight. It has case colored receiver and single set trigger with extra finish, “fancy”, beautifully figured stock and forearm with straight grip and crescent buttplate. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter identifying this rifle and indicating shipment June 28, 1888. Another letter over the signature of William L. Porter of the Winchester Arms Museum states that this rifle is one of only seven ever made with a 27″ bbl. CONDITION: Very fine plus. Bbl retains about 95% strong original blue with a few small nicks and light edge wear. Magazine tube retains about 90% finish, strong and bright in the sheltered areas, turning blue/gray on the bottom. Rear sight is an original replacement, missing its elevator. Receiver retains about 90% original case colors, strong on the sides, fading to silver on the bottom and thin on the top, brilliant in sheltered areas. Wood is sound with usual handling, use and storage nicks and scratches and retains about 95% original piano varnish on the butt stock with some light surface crazing and about 90% original finish on the forearm.
