RARE DELUXE ENGRAVED WINCHESTER MODEL 1886 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 45-90. SN 88126. Fine special order deluxe rifle with 26″ oct bbl, Jack front sight with ivory bead and semi-buckhorn rear sight. It has close coupled dbl set triggers. It has beautiful 3-4X center crotch-cut American walnut stock and forearm, “H” style checkering with black insert pistol grip stock and crescent buttplate. The receiver, upper and lower tangs and forend cap are gold plated with the balance of the metal nickel plated. The receiver, forend cap, upper tang and buttplate tang are nicely engraved. The left side of the receiver has a style “2” vignette of a standing white tail buck and doe with Ulrich style border and light arabesque patterns surrounding. The right side has the identical border with arabesque patterns. The top of the receiver, back of the hammer around the front of the lever, front end of the receiver, both sides of the forend cap and buttplate tang have light flourishes of arabesque patterns. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter fully identifying this rifle with $5.00 engraving and indicating shipment May 15, 1894 with another identical rifle. CONDITION: Fine. All the metal retains most of a complete restored finish to both gold and nickel plating. Wood is sound with a series of gouges on the right side of the butt stock along with usual light handling and use marks with moderate to heavy wear to the checkering on the forearm and moderate wear on the grip. Mechanics are fine, strong bright bore with some moderate rust pitting. 4-51559 JR762 (10,000-15,000)
