WINCHESTER MODEL 1866 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 44 RF Henry. SN 26548. Standard rifle with 24-1/4″ oct bbl, full magazine, globe front sight, Henry style ladder rear sight and usual Winchester bbl markings. The wood is straight grained American walnut, nicely figured, uncheckered with straight grip and crescent brass buttplate with trap. The receiver was apparently converted from a carbine, probably at the factory, as it has brass plugged staple holes on the left side of the receiver. There is another small plugged hole on the lower left side of the receiver. CONDITION: Fine to very fine, the bbl and magazine tube retain 85-90% good original blue with light muzzle & edge wear and some light surface spotting. The receiver has very slightly rounded edges and retains traces of an old polish, otherwise has a nice medium mustard patina as does the forend cap & buttplate. The forearm is missing a 1/4″ x 3/4″ triangle shaped chip at the left bbl channel and the wood has normal handling & use marks and retains most of an old refinish. Mechanics are fine, strong bright bore with scattered light pitting. 4-53455 JR782 (4,500-6,000)
