MARIE JOSEPH CHARLES CHASSEVENT (FRENCH, 19TH CENTURY) WASH DAY. Fine oil on canvas French country scene shows a small stream cascading over rock ledge forming a small pool where the village ladies have brought their clothes to wash. Six ladies and two children are seen washing baskets full of clothes. A man with three goats watches from a hillside vantage point and a woman is seen outside her house hanging some clothes. Signed lower left. Housed in an outstanding gilt carved wood replacement frame with gilt liner. SIZE: 20″ x 27″. CONDITION: Relined, minor inpainting otherwise very good. 9-20329 (800-1,200)
