EXTREMELY RARE CONSECUTIVE NUMBERED PAIR OF WINCHESTER MODEL 1866 LEVER ACTION RIFLES. Cal. 44 RF Henry. SN 156334 & 156335. This pair of rifles is pictured on page 92 of THE WINCHESTER BOOK, Madis. They are standard grade rifles with 24-1/4″ oct bbls, full magazines, half nickel front sights and short semi-buckhorn rear sights with checkered edges. They each have a Lyman locking tang sight and uncheckered wood with straight stock and crescent buttplate with trap. The forend caps and buttplates are steel. Accompanied by Cody Firearms Museum letters identifying these rifles as having been received in the warehouse December 19, 1881 and shipped March 28, 1882, both to Order #32018. The tang sights are apparently later additions as this style of sight did not appear on the market until 1905. CONDITION: #156334 is fine. The bbl and magazine tube retain mostly a plum brown patina with some light muzzle and edge wear. There is a small wrench mark on the left side of the chamber area. The receiver shows moderately worn edges with small spots of vice marks and several tiny nicks and scratches and now retains a medium mustard patina. The lever screw is slightly battered. The wood is sound with numerous usual small nicks, scratches and dings and a small gouge or two and retains a fine hand rubbed patina. Mechanics are fine, strong dark bore. #156335 is also fine with a nice even plum brown patina on the bbl and magazine tube. The receiver shows light wear on the edges with several small scratches on the left sideplate and a series of small nicks just in front of the sideplate and overall retains a fine medium mustard patina. The wood is sound with light handling and use marks and retains most of an old restored finish. Mechanics are fine, strong dark bore. An extremely rare set in good enough condition to fit in anyone’s collection. 4-53365 (30,000-40,000)
