ANDREW W MELROSE (American, 1836-1901) THE MOUNTAIN RETREAT. Oil on canvas scene shows a cabin high on a rocky mountain edge with a small stream running beside. A man sits beside the cabin and another overlooking the lake below with mountains in the background. Bright sunset sky with clouds in colors of pinks, orange, purple and blue. Signed lower left “A. Melrose”. Housed in a fine reproduction gilt carved wood frame, probably by the Guido Studio of Boston. SIZE: 24” x 20”. CONDITION: Relined, some inpainting, craquelure.
