SCARCE SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1892/96 KRAG RIFLE. Cal. 30-40. SN 16721. Standard rifle with 30″ round bbl, pedestal front sight and early 1,800 yard ladder military rear sight. The receiver is dated “1894” and it has the original early stock with a visible “ESA” cartouche with illegible date. The forestock has the filled ramrod channel on the bottom and it has the original bolt body with the 1896 sleeve. The stock has a smooth buttplate with trap. CONDITION: Fine, the barrel retains about 95% dark blue/brown and the receiver and sideplate have a mottled silver/brown patina. Cartridge box retains 50-60% thin original blue and the extractor most of its dull original niter blue. The wood is sound with a replaced chip by the right side of the receiver and has usual light use & handling marks with a sling scrape and gouge on the bottom of the forestock. There is a name scratched on the left side of the butt and a gouge on the comb. Mechanics are fine, brilliant shiny bore. 4-53605 JR1030 (1,000-1,500)
