*SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1898 KRAG CARBINE. Cal. 30-40. SN 189808. Standard carbine with 22″ round bbl, pedestal front sight and 2,000 yard military rear sight. The left side of the wrist has a clear rectangular cartouche dated “1901”. CONDITION: Fine, the bbl retains 95-96% original blue with a small gouge near the muzzle. The receiver is mostly a blue/gray patina with the sideplate retaining 70-75% faded case colors. The cartridge box retains 75-80% strong original blue and the extractor about 90% dull niter blue. The stock has a crack on each side, back of the sideplate and back of the cartridge box and another hairline back of the top tang. It has the name “Joe” scratched on the left side. The handguard has a full length crack down the top and overall the wood retains most of an old amateur refinish. Mechanics are fine, strong bright bore with some fine surface spotting. 4-53612 JR1023 (800-1,200)
