*SCARCE VIETNAM WAR TROPHY REMINGTON 03-A4 SNIPER RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. SN Z4001066. Standard 03-A4 with 24″ 2-groove bbl, dated “9-43” without front sight. It has the “US” and “Remington/Model 03-A3″ properly on the left side of the receiver ring and the serial number in small numbers on the right side. The receiver is mounted with an original parkerized Redfield Junior 1-piece base and 3/4” rings containing a Weaver Model 330 scope that is electric pencil etched on the right rear side “Telescope M73B1 Serial No. 9784”. It has a full length upper hand guard and is mounted in a 1-piece semi-pistol grip walnut stock with no cartouche on the left wrist but has “BA/11” on the left side near the buttplate. It has original stacking & swing swivels and checkered buttplate with trap. It has its original parkerized 03-A4 bolt with bent handle. It is accompanied by a DD form 603 (registration of war trophy firearms) dated “27 May 68” at “Tan Son Nhut Air Base” and is in the name of CW3 Robert E. Gootee who lists his home as Arbo Landing, Gibson, FL. Also accompanied by a DD Form 603-1 (war trophy registration/authorization) with the same date and providing the same information. There is one additional form, a USAHC form dated 20 Nov 68 with subject line “Transporting Firearms (temporary export permit)” providing the same information as above also overstamped “Tan Son Nhut Air Base”. The bottom of this form has the hand written notation “Ownership transferred to Bernard Zwolinski” with the date “10-15-87” and bears Gootee’s signature. Consignor states that he purchased this rifle directly from Mr. Zwolinski. CONDITION: Extremely fine plus, the metal retains virtually all of its original gray/green parkerizing with one small spot of pitting on the top of the front band/bayonet lug. The wood is sound with some light scrapes and scratches on the left side and usual handling & storage marks elsewhere. The receiver rails show light wear marks and the bolt body shows light to moderate wear. Mechanics are fine, brilliant shiny bore. A truly rare and exceptional war trophy, undoubtedly obtained by the Vietnamese through China from Korean War captured weapons. 4-53606 JR1029 (1,500-2,500)
