SPONGE DECORATED AND PAINTED PANEL PENNSYLVANIA DOWRY CHEST. Green and mustard sponge decoration. Two rounded top painted panels to front with two-handled vase of flowers. Identical panels on each end and square painted panels to top. Mustard background with colorful flowers. Chest has applied bracket foot with cutout ends. Lid has cotter pin hinge, single board top with rounded front edge. Lap joint and nail construction. Lidded till. Original lock and key. Old paper label on inside of lid “Old Blanket chest, refinished with vinegar graining and panels with tulip motif, 1932. Snipe hinges”. Similar flower style painting is found on Dauphin County pieces. SIZE: 24” h x 45” w x 19” d. CONDITION: Some scratches and paint chips.
