HAENL FALLING BLOCK GERMAN SCHUTZEN RIFLE. Cal. 8.15 x 46R. NSN. Fine heavy Schutzen rifle with 31-1/2″ fluted, oct to rnd bbl, ramp front sight with windage and protective ears, matted top flat with groove for mid-range bbl sight. The top tang has the base for a Schutzen sight which is missing. It has dbl set triggers and Haenl wide spread Schutzen style trigger guard lever and heavy checkered Schutzen buttstock with massive cheek piece. The forearm is checkered with raised panels at the rear and the carving of a dog’s head at the tip. The receiver is beautifully engraved in foliate arabesque patterns with a vignette of large intertwined initials that appear to be “MC”. The right side has the vignette of a man in Jaeger clothing holding a Schutzen rifle and has small oak leaves and acorns surrounding. The top and bottom of the receiver and top tang are engraved to match. The bottom of the lever has an engraved mythical figure. CONDITION: Fine plus, the bbl retains about 95% strong bright blue that may be an old refinish. The receiver retains about 90% original case colors turning brown on the top with some light surface discoloration on the right side. The thumb rest has heavily chipped edges and the butt stock is nicked and scratched. The forearm has a long split by the left bbl channel and is missing a small sliver. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore. 4-53180 JR764 (1,000-2,000)
