SPECTACULAR FRANCOTTE ROOK RIFLE. Cal. 297/230 Morris. SN 39134. Built on a tiny Martini action with 27-1/2″ light weight, tapered rnd bbl with square base dovetail front sight and typical English 3-leaf express sight, one standing, two folding, marked “50, 100, 150”. The receiver is beautifully engraved in diamond patterns with cross-hatching at the intersecting lines. The same pattern is found on the bottom of the trigger guard. The left side of the receiver has the August Francotte crown over “AF” mark with the patent number “57149” which is also found on the left side of the bbl. It also has the Francotte patent trigger group release screw on the right side and a lever take down screw on the left side. Both levers are engraved with checkered patterns on the tabs. It has lightly engraved case colored breechblock and normal serpentine lever. The wood is highly figured English walnut with extensively checkered forearm that has a horn schnable tip. The stock has extensively checkered straight grip and a smooth semi-crescent case hardened butt plate. The trigger is serrated and the sides are jeweled. Screw heads are nicely engraved. Accompanied by a set of RCBS custom reloading dies and about 200 rnds of custom formed brass made from 22 Hornet casings and which includes 150 rnds of custom loaded ammunition. Consignor states it is a very accurate little rifle. Also accompanied by a Gun Guard plastic case. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbl retains about 98% strong original rust blue. Receiver & trigger guard retain virtually all of their original bright polish blue and the two levers most of their bright niter blue. Breechblock retains most of its original case colors, bright in the sheltered areas. Lever retains traces of case colors with the balance turned silver and the buttplate about 50% faded case colors with the balance turned silver. Wood is sound and retains most of an extremely fine expert professionally restored finish. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bore. 4-52094 JR910 (1,500-2,500)
