LARGE CAST BRONZE INCENSE BURNER WITH COVER. Having golden patination and cast in several sections in four parts, the globular body set on a tall stem and stepped domed foot. The sides decorated with three recessed panels on each side, decorated in high relief with various subject including quail, cranes, ho-o birds and an eagle stooping for a rabbit. All panels divided by branches of chrysanthemums hung with rings from the curled stems and on a ground of cast and chiseled flowers. The sides also with double dragon handles and a further dragon amongst waves entwining the stem. The domed cover pierced and surmounted by a shi-shi. Circa 1860-1880. PROVENANCE: Sotheby’s Belgravia; Lot 322 June 21st, 1973. PROVENANCE: Fine private Long Island, New York mansion. SIZE: 39-1/2”. CONDITION: Two broken side ring decoration, one present.
