*SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1903 CAL. 30 SPORTER. Cal. 30. SN 1295362. Rifle appears to be a very good example of the Springfield mod. 1903 Sporter that was manufactured at the Armory in the late 20’s to early 30’s. It has all the correct features, including the same bbl dimensions as the 22, because they used the 1922 stocks on these rifles. Also has the correct star gauged bbl with the correct star gauge nomenclature on the wood. the 1922 bbl band and Lyman 48 receiver sight. This example is not glass bedded. CONDITION: Receiver retains 95% of the orig finish and shows excellent as does the Lyman 48 receiver sight. Bbl that is dated “6-28” also exhibits some 95-98% of the orig finish, including the front sight, which has some finish loss due to a sight cover that is no longer present. Bbl band retains 90% of its orig blue with no hints of any kinds of rusting or spotting. Trigger guard assembly retains 85% of the blue and some surface corrosion is just beginning to form at the front portion. Floorplate assembly is spotted with blue and patina, presumably from resting on a hand. No significant scratches or mars in it. Buttstock has no cartouche, but it does have a circle “P” and is in excellent condition with just a minimum of scarring with the most significant being a 1/2” x 1/4” x 1/8” deep small gouge on the right side of the cheek piece. Other than that, any markings in the stock are barely evident. Polished bolt with number “J-5” on the top of the handle is numbered to this gun. Crescent 1922 buttplate is in fine condition with remaining blue within the checkering and the border has turned to plum. Rifle is equipped with a 1903 sling that is fair to poor condition. Bore has very good rifling, though somewhat dark in the grooves. Mechanics are excellent. Edwards Collection 4-58518 BK53 (1,000-2,000)
