SCARCE MASSACHUSETTS MADE PERCUSSION PUNT GUN. Cal. about 10 bore. Scarce old fowling piece with 53” unmarked round bbl, 68-1/2” overall length, with brass furniture, built on a half stock, probably walnut, with raised side panels and two wedges through the forestock. It has Brown Bess style trigger guard with pineapple finial and a stepped tang buttplate. The bottom of the bbl has an iron rail with two iron guides containing a homemade replacement rammer. The lock is lightly engraved and marked “C.R. Sargent / Newburyport”. CONDITION: Bbl is a dark brown patina with heavy pitting around the nipple area and on top of the lockplate. Trigger guard has a crack through a screw hole so a third screw was installed. Stock has repaired crack the length of the forestock, otherwise is sound and retains most of an old refinish. One wedge is missing. Mechanics are fine. 4-51193 JR1153 (500-1,000)
