SCARCE REMINGTON MODEL 1875 SINGLE ACTION REVOLVER. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). SN 491. Nickel finish with 7-1/2″ rnd bbl, pinched blade front sight, long web on the ejector rod housing and 2-piece walnut grips and a lanyard loop in the butt. The bbl has usual markings and the left grip is stamped “44.W.” The bottom of the grips are stamped “HR”. This is possibly one of the 639 nickel plated Model 1875’s purchased by the U.S. Interior Dept. in 1883 for use by Indian Police on western reservations. Accompanied by a pair of old ivory grips for Model 1875 revolver. CONDITION: Extremely fine, retains most of its original bright nickel finish with some slight pimpling with pitting on the right side of the frame and hammer. The grips have a dressed down left toe, otherwise show moderate wear with light scratches and handling marks and retain about 85% original varnish. Crisp mechanics, strong bright bore with scattered fine pitting and one larger spot. The spare ivory grips have chips around the frame pin and numerous age lines in the butt. The right side has numerous age lines and maintains a light ivory color. The left side has a few age lines and has a dark mellow patina. 4-53470 JR868 (4,000-7,000)
