SPECTACULAR FRENCH CAST IRON POSTAL CARD DISPENSER. A sensational and elaborate cast iron front vending machine, circa 1900-1910. One of two known, it depicts a young woman adorned in a sweeping gown, giving a postal card to Cupid himself to mail off to her lover. Seated in a garden setting with flowers and vines, a glass window shows a card that is available for purchase. Mechanism is activated by dropping a coin in the slot and pulling lever next to Cupid. Card is then dispensed to holder under machine. This machine was probably set up outside in the elements, thus necessitating frequent enhancement to the original paint. SIZE: 28″ t (including marquee) x 13″ w x 12″ d. CONDITION: Mechanism and castings appear to be intact. Paint is old, but not original. 1-7578 JL (12,000-18,000)
